GHOST PEPPER SAUCE

Smells of roasted garlic, tomato, and apple cider vinegar greet the nose here, all while hinting at a searing heat. The first taste is quite vegetal, specifically featuring carrot, with garlic, onion, and tomato all present. A quick mid-high heat accompanies the first flavors. Apple cider vinegar and lime juice brighten up the scene, but help bring on even more heat from the ghost peppers. This continues to build, but never sacrifices flavors in the process. Light fruit juices keep this hot sauce floral, while playing nicely with the vegetal flavors from the first impression. A searing linger is a nice reminder to grab another bite and keep that flavor going!

 

Breakdown: This sauce features some great flavor combinations and excellent heat. It’s very versatile and has just enough sweetness to keep you coming back for more.

REAPER SAUCE

Sweet smells of cherries, brown sugar, and bourbon float out of this bottle, all followed by the familiar scent of a scorching Carolina Reaper. The first bite of this fruity hot sauce hints at sweetness, but is an immediate heat, scorching, but followed quickly by black cherries and a mild onion flavor on the linger. After allowing the heat to subside for a moment, the second bite reveals the sweetness of black cherries and brown sugar, the tartness of cranberry, and a touch of oaky flavor. A few more tastes finally bring out the full bourbon flavor, allowing the fruit and bourbon to mix nicely and create the sensation of drinking an after dinner cordial. A light hint of vanilla is noted on the exhale. This hot sauce is surprisingly versatile, despite the sweet fruit flavor. I highly recommend it on a steak, or even dessert!

 

Breakdown: I love dark fruit hot sauces, and this is no exception. The bourbon and vanilla mix perfectly with the cherries and berries to make this reminiscent of a berry cheesecake.
