DASHELITO'S GREEN FIRE

This green sauce actually smells green and fresh with the first sniff. The tail end picks up a bit of vinegar. A thicker sauce, the taste presents a very sweet jalapeno flavor. It tastes very fresh, with lots of vinegar on the tail end. This particular offering from Dashelito’s has a very straightforward jalapeno heat with only a slight linger.

Breakdown: A little too thick for my liking. It’s a very sweet sauce, and the thickness makes it a little unappetizing from a consistency viewpoint, but the flavor is decent, and anyone who likes a sweet heat will enjoy this. Definitely try it on tacos or Mexican dishes, but certainly a good topping for pizza if you dig the Verde sauces.

DASHELITO'S RED HONEY

Heavy hit from honey and ACV right off the spoon. This is met with a strong citrus flavor that reveals itself to be habanero with a slight tinge of lemon. A second taste begins to reveal earth flavors like chili powder and paprika, creating a low warm heat that lingers with a spicy sweetness.

Breakdown: A little too strong on the ACV. Combine that with the earthy flavors and the sweetness make a bit of a confusing taste transition. The first taste is nice, but a few more and I’ve had my fill. It does well as a glaze for chicken, and isn’t bad on pizza if you want a complimentary sweet heat.

DASHELITO'S UNDERTOW - CARRIBEAN CURRY

As the yellow sauce pours from the bottle, I can smell a healthy amount of curry and fruit. This sauce has a medium consistency, easy to pour, but thick enough for a glaze. The first taste is very sweet and syrupy, reminiscent of a fruit cocktail cup. I’m met with ripe peaches and oranges, which is followed by a flood of garlic and curry soon after the sweetness subsides. That flavor changes to a vinegar flavor, heavily laden with curry and spice, leaving the tongue warm. The semi-sweet curry flavor lingers, building slightly in intensity as more is eaten. Try this one on pork or in a rice dish for an island curry flavor.

DASHELITO'S SWEET HEAT

This thick sauce has a very sweet scent, with heavy notes of jalapeno. The first bite lives up to the Candied Jalapeno name, with a very sugary flavor combined with the mild chili taste you get from a fresh jalapeno. Notes of garlic are present throughout, but linger slightly longer than the rest. This one is somehow hotter than others, despite their “medium” description. It’s hard to place the spices used in this sauce, but I find it to be a wonderful display of the jalapeno flavor.

Breakdown: This is one of my favorites from Dashelito’s. It has a great flavor, a spicy linger, and a lot of sweetness packed into the bottle. It’s hotter than some, but the sweetness makes it approachable for all levels. Check it out on chicken, or with some bacon in a dish for some awesome flavor combinations.

DASHELITO'S BLACKOUT

My first impression comes from the brown sugar and berry smells wafting from the bottle. This sauce is very sweet and my first bite tasted a bit like molasses. There was a faint spice from habanero, which pairs well with the berries to create the fruity and spicy flavors. The linger proved slightly salty, which was a surprise, but it helped to counter the sweetness. My second bite brought distinct honey flavors, but also confirmed the salt was coming from soy sauce. This thick sauce leaves a nice sweet aftertaste and is great for people a bit timid with spicy foods.

Breakdown: Definitely not “extra hot” as advertised. It has a good blueberry flavor, but falls short on the heat with a little overpowering sweetness. Use it like a BBQ sauce for some tasty results.
